Martin Luther King

I wonder what he would think if he was alive today. A man who received the Nobel Peace Prize, and donated the money, a man who is honored with a statue alongside other 20th century martyrs at Westminster Abbey, a man who according to a Gallup poll was the 2nd most widely admired man of the 20th century. Would he be disappointed by the state of race relations today? How would he feel about the state of South Carolina still flying the confederate flag on the grounds of the state capitol? What would he think about the Iraq war? About gay marriage and abuses the gay culture deals with today? We still have a long way to go to achieve his dream of "all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old Negro spiritual, 'Free at last! free at last! thank God Almighty, we are free at last!'" We needed more people like him when he was alive, and we need more like him now. He rightly deserves the honor of a federal holiday, it's just a shame we have yet to live up to his dreams.
