"Mr. D. With all due respect to your positions on the whole Saddam execution thing, I think you’re missing the entire point of our society. America thrives on an addictive need for violent imagery and news. In the same way a shot of whiskey is not going to satisfy a heroine junkie, respect for a past president (who was actually pretty good, particularly for a republican) is not going to trump images or news of an evil dictator being killed, especially when he has been hyped by the neo - con media for the last half decade. Being home for the holidays I’ve inundated myself with enough TV to last the entire year and pretty much images and themes of people being shot, raped, beaten, blown up etc. dominate the airwaves – no frontal nudity though, we would not want to pollute the minds of Americans with that indecent smut! So, hey we have a problem here, I’ll admit it for the whole country, we’re addicted to depictions of debauchery and violence. I think it is a product of the mundane, lazy, predictable and uncreative lifestyles most Americans lead. I’m sure there are other reasons but I’m too uncreative, lazy, and mundane to think of them.
Too bad the hanging already took place. If it were coupled with a firing squad that riddled the falling evil dictator with bullets before his neck snapped it would have made a fortune on pay per view. Personally, it would have been a nice touch to see a couple other modern day war criminals hanging next to him. An image of Bush and a limp Dick Cheney come to mind. If you want to talk about atrocities against their own people, those two get my vote."
As much as I just got my ass whooped there, you gotta love the good natured humor of that guy. I do like the notion of a three for one sale though.
